Moccagatta - Chi siamo

Our Origins

A place that's incredibly rich in nature as far as the eye can see.

Moccagatta is named after the land where the company is located. The name comes from the previous inhabitants of this hill, the Moncagatta family, who lived here until the early 1800s.
From the mid-1800s, the Minuto family became the owners of the land, and in 1952, Mario Minuto used “Moccagatta” on the label of a new production for the first time.
Even today, you can’t help but fall in love with these hills that slope gently toward the bend in the Tanaro River, illuminated by the last rays of the sunset.

The Vineyard's DNA

The story begins in the mid-1800s on the family land.

Cultivating vineyards is closely intertwined with the history of this family, who owned various vineyards in the municipality of Barbaresco in the mid-1800s. The story that has been passed on from father to son for several generations is about Giuseppe, then Giovanni, and then Luigi who built the new cellar in 1913 and expanded the sales network. But it was Mario in 1952, after splitting his father’s property with his brother, who founded the Moccagatta winery, taking its name from the land where the farmhouse is located.

Wines with the Flavor of History and Modernity

A family tradition carried on for three generations with the same passion and love for the land.

In the 1970s, Franco and Sergio began making wine with an accent on quality. Meticulous care of the vineyard, a willingness to sacrifice quantity in favor of the richness and concentration of the wines, and investments in modern wine-making equipment enabled the quality of the wines to increase. Today, their respective children, Stefano and Martina, continue the family business with passion, adding their contributions without losing sight of history.

The Moccagatta Team

Sergio’s daughter was born during the time when the Langhe became famous worldwide, and since childhood, she has chosen to follow in her father’s footsteps with the family business. She attended the Oenological School in Alba and then majored in Viticulture and Oenology at the University of Turin in order to integrate family knowledge with science and new technologies. Her passion for travel leads her to chase bottles of Moccagatta around the world.

Franco’s son, born and raised with a passion for everything surrounding the vineyard, developed an interest in tractors and agricultural machines early on. He never misses an opportunity to test and experiment with the latest technological innovations in vineyard equipment.

Born in the countryside and raised at a time when there were not many alternatives to working the land, he began helping the family at an early age. He was an enthusiastic part of the change that helped define the Langhe of the 80s and 90s, by embracing new technologies and modern production with curiosity and passion.

Faithful collaborators Afrim, Marco, Corrado, and Eugenio manage the work between the vineyard and the cellar.
